Flight 93 Visit 2007

Location(s) Flight 93 National MemorialShanksville, PASee map: Google MapsIn the pre-dawn darkness, the “chance of showers” forecast turned into steady rain so our trip to Shanksville for the Flight 93 Remembrance Day was in jeopardy. I watched the TV

Breezing into Ohio

March Snow -- here today, gone tomorrow

I love March snow.  It's great to look at, and it disappears fast, long before you have time to get tired of it.  I walked around my 'hood a little this morning -- it was like being in a snow globe.

Listening to the weather across the US

Admit it -- as the snow piles up around us here in central Pennsylvania, you've been mesmerized by the colorful maps on the Weather Channel.  You've been watching the angry green colors spread over the Midwest and the Ohio Valley while you keep hoping that the nasty pink (ice!) stays away.  But why is it now mandatory that weather reporters have to go to the scene of the worst weather

Missing winter . . . NOT!

Several people have commented to me lately that they're missing winter -- where's the snow and cold?  Here in central PA we're enjoying yet another week of above normal temperatures and sunshine.  We had a brief dusting of snow about a month ago, but that's been it so far.  Actually, here near Williamsburg, PA, it's been more than a year since we've had measurable and disrupting snow.  All those snow shovels and snow blowers are standing ready by the back door, along with buckets of sand and salt, but we haven't needed them yet.  Instead, the bikes are still out, and people are enjoying brisk walks along the Lower Trail, a local Rails-to-Trails project.
