Summer's Bookends
Summer wanes; all of the barometric indicators are there. The ceremonial closing of the public swimming pools, and the lumbering of those big yellow school buses down American's streets and roads. Not to mention the flurry of back-to-school shopping over the past two weeks.
For me, as for most Americans, summer is bracketed by Memorial Day and Labor Day. One signals the end of school and the onset of consistently hot weather; the other portends a new school year beginning, and the onset of cooler weather (especially at night!).
Fall now beckons, and we Pennsylvanians can revel in the outstanding fall scenery as we change from hues of green to outrageous bursts of color. We'll enjoy the cooler nights - sometimes around a campfire or firepit with friends, sipping hot chocolate and burrowing further into our jackets. Football games and crisp apples are in our future.
Each season has its benefits. This weekend we say farewell to summer's and open the door to autumn's.

Homesick
No matter how long I'm in Texas, my soul still knows when it's time for fall to start. And every year I'm frustrated that it's still nearly 100 degrees in mid-September. The nights aren't cool, as a matter of fact, our A/C is still running non-stop and is on its last legs. But I know it's getting chilly in Tipton, and I long for those days! Lucky for me, this year I have a countdown, just 3 more weeks until I can get in the car and drive home to enjoy that fire pit and smell some leaves as they change and begin falling. Save a seat for me!!
