Hollidaysburg, PA, 16648You would think that the most valuable resources at any library are the books. I would offer that books are the second most
valuable resource. The librarians and volunteers are what make a library successful. Their ingenuity to work with small budgets, their talent to manage time, and their sincere devotion to helping people understand the value of reading is what makes a good staff. In my mind the folks in and around Hollidaysburg should be very grateful for Melanie Ramsey and Glenn Campbell.

Both have a wealth of experience and education in teaching children. They have managed to take that love of
teaching and use it to influence young and old that a book is a valuable resource to be treasured and appreciated. Glenn is a former Biology teacher. When I started listening to Mr. Campbell talk about kids and books he put me in mind of Mr. Rogers. He had me listening as soon as he started talking. I was fascinated with his stories of his military experiences as well as his stories of how he became a teacher. Melanie is pure energy and the kids love her. We were fortunate to see her interacting with the kids. Her spirit made me dust off my library card and pick up a book.

The Children's Room, located downstairs, offers storybooks, board books, fiction and nonfiction books, audio books, family videos, and storybooks with audiotapes. Also downstairs is the Young Adult section, with fiction and nonfiction titles, reading list paperbacks, and audio books. It reminded me of my early days when I went to this library and received my first library card. They let you take a book for FREE? Wow!
What can you do to help support the library? The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library receives much of its funding through private donations from individuals, businesses and civic organizations. Your donations of cash and supplies help keep the Library open and free-of-charge for all Hollidaysburg Area residents. Take a look at their needs list for this month or their Amazon Wishlist.
Mr. Campbell and Melanie are just a few of the great people working at the Hollidaysburg Library. They have a talented director in Janet Eldred who I have had the opportunity to meet only a couple of times. They have a talented friends group who sell everything from Pecans to Christmas wreaths to raise money for the library. Like I said earlier in this story, the most valuable resources for a library are the staff and volunteers. So when you stop in to see the folks at the Library remember to show your appreciation and take the time to tell them thanks. I would encourage all to give to their local library especially those who live in the Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania area.

Looking for a Melanie and Mr. Campbell in FL
Last summer, I had the wonderful experience of working with Melanie and Mr. Campbell in their summer reading program. I know I had as much fun as the kids. The story didn't mention that Melanie always had a craft for the kids to work on after the story. And, Melanie really brings a story and its' characters to life when she reads. I have recently moved to Florida to be with my grandchildren, and I am searching for a similar program here to take my grandchildren to. It's so very hard to replace people like Melanie and Mr. Campbell in your life. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me and allowing me to 'visit' Melanie and Mr. Campbell again.
Glad you liked the story
Thanks for sharing about Melanie and the crafts. On the particular day I was visiting the library they were making Big Foot feet. They cut Big feet out of cardboard boxes and then decorate the feet. Once decorated they set up the feet so the kids can wear their Big Foot feet. Most kids did not wear their feet because they were too nicely decorated.
Melanie and Mr. Campbell are dedicated people.
