Square Wear for the Hakuna Matatas
July 30, 2007 - 11:15am — Corys_Stories
Oh, what a FUNtastic evening! The clothing distribution ran very smooth. Almost everything that we ‘eyed up’ to fit the kids, actually fit. Only a few had to do some trades and swaps to get their costumes just right. But, we had everything right there. Gramma’s basement still looks like a western wear shop. We only tapped into about a quarter of the clothing. This is good because there is some ‘talk’ about starting 2 more handi-capable square dancing clubs within our area.
Campbell’s Sporting Goods came to the rescue at the last minute, sending in bolos, scarves and belt buckles for the boys. The angel (helper) dancers came in early to assist the kids with trying on their outfits. Please watch the video. You have to watch the entire clip, the music is perfect. The ending is so uplifting with the musical fade in of Hakuna Matata.
The kids actually wanted to name the club the Hakuna Matatas because of its simple philosophy. Just like the song says, “It means no worries” We try to leave all of our ‘worries’ at the door and have a fun hour of square dancing once a week. I will video some more in a couple of weeks when we have dress rehearsal.

Video clip question
That was really cool. I do have a question though. In the video clip I could hear you calling and the music but then I could also hear another voice like someone else calling? Did you pre-record it and then add as you went along during the dance?

Just me, you might be hearing the voices in your head again. ha The kids were singing along, and the parents were off to my left talking. I'm so glad you are on storytrax, Bernice.

No Worries
Cory,
Good job on the video...as much as I hate to say it you're pretty good at calling...must be your calling. HA HA.

Timon & Pumbaa
Thanks, dude. Tommy and I are PUMBAA & TIMON. Everyone is so nice to donate time and talent to these kids. One of our dancers made a banner for the club, which is behind me on the quick clip of yours truly calling. The colorful name badges had a discounted price on them, and our local caller's association contributed $100 to the group and one of our special angel dancers picked up the rest of the bill. When we start a new group in September, I have a feeling we'll get some new angel dancers too.
