Blair County Genealogy
Location(s)
Last Thursday I spent an interesting evening at the Blair County (PA) Genealogical Society in Hollidaysburg, PA. I did a little program about General Daniel Roberdeau. I had some time before the program which I spent checking out the wonderful resources there in their library. Newspapers, county histories, family histories, photographs -- they've got a lot of interesting material there that can help you find your ancestors. If you're new to genealogy, they also have forms and books that will help you get started.
The library, known as the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, is located at 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg, PA (not far from The Dream restaurant). The library is open Monday 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm; Wednesday 10 am to 5 pm and 6:30 to 9:30 pm; Thursday 10 am to 3:30 pm; Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. The library is closed during the month of December. The library is staffed by volunteers from the Society who will be glad to help you piece together your family history. Call them at 814-696-3492.
To really get the benefits of the Society, I recommend that you join. It's a great deal at just $15 (other levels are available). As part of your membership, you get the quarterly newsletter. This is no wimpy newsletter! It's more than 30 pages of articles and information that will make your own research a breeze.
I encouraged the 30 or so members that I talked to Thursday night to join us here at StoryTrax. I look forward to seeing what they have to say.
