Yellowcreek Campground
Location(s)
I went camping this past weekend at Yellowcreeek Campgrounds. This Campground is located just outside of Yellow Creek State Park in Pennsylvania. For a web designer trying to just get away for the weekend this was a perfect place to go. This campground seemed to be very quiet and unpopulated (unless you go on a holiday weekend), which made it nice for everyone that went along with including myself. This campground was not very big but it had a few things that intrigued me.
The camp ground is semi small but has a trout stream that goes around the campground. Im not much of a trout fisherman but it was tempting enough to try. I enjoy fishing for Musky, Walleye, Big Catfish, Bass, and whatever else might come along. All of these types of fish (not sure about the walleye) are just a 2 minute drive over to the State Park where they have a decent sized lake to fish in. It was a hot day on Saturday and other than fishing I decided to go for a swim at the public swimming area. The water was to cold to get into but once you were in it was nice.
I wish I would have taken a canoe. At the front of the campground I noticed two people pull up in a truck and pull out their canoe and launch it into the creek that goes around the campground. They say that the creek will flow down to the lake and they can fish the whole way.
Last but not least this campground had what they called as the island. At the farthest most point into it they have a bridge that goes over to a little island. The island goes right against the creek and you can fish right from it. The nice part of the island is that you can actually book to camp there if you would like. They have it as an official camping spot. It looks kinda bumpy/hilly so if you were to camp with a big tent it wouldnt be very nice but 3 small tents would work well. I would reserve that as a very good get away. Camping on the island. Just saying that for people in central, PA makes me want to go back and try it.
If you ever want to go camping around Indiana, PA I would recommend it. I spent one night going 10 minutes to IUP/Indiana to see where my sister works, to get some ice, to help push a guys steaming vehicle that wouldnt start off the road, and to see the IUP campus. I spent the whole weekend gaining way more weight than what I had wanted to but it was a lot of fun.
