A Day at the Park
Last Friday I had the opportunity to take off work to take my four year old niece & my six year old nephew to Delgrosso's Amusement Park for my nephew's school picnic. Usually my sister & I both go but she could not get off work so I volunteered to do it myself.
We arrived at the park shortly after ten am. Activities were already in full swing. As soon as we got their my niece wanted a purple sword. I was able to talk her into waiting until the end. As soon as we had our wrist bands we were off to Kiddie Land. I was excited. As long as they decided on doing the same things we would be okay. It was short lived. My nephew decided it was time to go to the "big rides". We started okay with the Merry Go Round but then we progressed to the faster rides. We were all rather hot & sticky & we did one ride that just didn't settle well with me I decided to break for lunch. We headed to the pavilion which was his schools & stood in line. We were in line forever & weren't moving. It was hot. My niece wanted held & my nephew decided to run in between the people in line chasing another little guy. After 20 minutes in the sun I opted out of the line & went to find something ice cold to drink. I was talked into Cotton Candy but at that time I probably would have agreed to anything if I could sit in the shade w/ a cold ice water. I finally felt decent enough to attempt the lunch line which finally had moved. We ate our lunch & the kids did well despite having the sweet snack. We headed back to the rides. I decided to send my sister a picture to show her we were managing without her & I instantly got a phone call & she said I depressed her. I honestly did not mean to depress her I just wanted to reassure her. It was at that moment I realized how fortunate I was to be one who was able to spend the day with the kids.
We stayed at the park until about 3. I was reminded by my niece I promised her a purple sword & a baseball bat for my nephew. They had worn me out. I took them home to their dad & I went to my house & took a 2 hour nap. I don't ever remember being that tired even after a full day at work or even a 10 hr day was no comparison. I would hot have changed anything though. It was a great day. I definitely would do it all over again. I give credit to all of those moms out there though because they do that on a daily basis.

nothing is more exhausting than being the fun aunt/uncle!
I hear ya! when you're the 'fun one' you are constantly on, and have to be entertaining and go-go-go. With their own parents, they are way more lax b.c they know mama & daddy are doing stuff too, and know they will say NO without linking an eyelash, hahaha.
Delgrossos is a fun day, but exhausting!! We were there the day before you were....it was soexhausting Al took Nick home for a nap mid-day,hahaha!!!
Anytime you want to rent my hoodlums, they are up for lease.........
It is Tiring
For many years I was just Uncle. I played with my nieces and nephews until I was wiped out at the end of the day. It reminded me just how much fun it is to be with kids. Their imaginations were intense and enjoyable. Now having my own son I look forward to doing the same things with him that i did with my nieces and nephews.
This weekend Michaela, Gabby, Cai, AJ, and Rebecca are visiting along with my sister. There will be campfires, hot coocoa, and lots of playing. It will be fun.
