Developing a piece of heaven
May 29, 2007 - 8:33pm — JYork
The temperature is 70 degrees, with bright sun and the cloudless sky is nothing but deep blue. My wife and I are spending a few days working from a cabin at Uncle John’s Campground along Elk Creek, a short distance upstream from where the creek enters Lake Erie.

I took time today to meet with “Uncle” John Puline and his daughter Shawna, Oliver Edwards, the campground manager, and several friendly camping neighbors – Flo, Ed and Judy; and I sampled a piece of Flo’s apple pie. It was delicious.

The purpose of my trip to Erie is simple enough, but given the surroundings and the company of the other campers, not to mention the pie, it may take me more time to complete my work than I first anticipated.
As I started to type this blog report, two families of geese decided to walk by so I grabbed the camera and got a clip. It sure is easy to get distracted amid all this peace and quiet with nature parading around.
Okay, back to the purpose of this trip. I intend to take a few pictures and write a blog or two about Uncle John’s plan to transform his 15-acres of heaven into 50-full service cabins. Some of the cabins will even have a back porch that overlooks Elk Creek – one of the finest Steelhead trout streams in the eastern U.S.
The project completion target is October 2008. Once the necessary infrastructure is installed and the units built, each cabin unit will be sold on a “time-share” basis to prospective buyers. Uncle John anticipates that some will purchase in order to have a cabin during the Steelhead run from October to May. Some he figures will buy to own a summer cabin near Lake Erie. Whatever the reason for buying, John will offer to broker deals to rent the units when the time-share cabins are not occupied by the owners. Now there is a deal. Yours when you want it and then an income source when you don’t.
If you have fished lower Elk Creek over the past few years, you probably are familiar with Uncle Johns Campground. It is on the east side of Elk Creek just down stream from the Route 5 tubes.
Past customers to the campground and cabins are on the list to buy already and Uncle John is busy completing the necessary advance work.
If you are interested in this project, cabin ownership, or just have questions, please drop me an email and I will pass along your interest or questions to Uncle John. His web site is undergoing an upgrade and currently lacks email capability.
Now that this blog is finished, I am going out on the cabin porch to watch day turn into night.
