Lake Raystown Resort

A portion of Rothrock State Forest just to the east of Terrace Mountain and Raystown Lake was the inspriation for naming Rothrock Campground at Raystown Lake.

When the Corps of Engineers first established the campground it was your typical Corps effort.  Nice layout, ranger station at the entrance, minimal impact on the natural surroundings, small boat launch and first-class comfort stations.

The early years were great fun.  Linda and Ed Houp, local residents who managed the check-in process, began each morning by greeting a long line of "first come - first serve" campers waiting in the entrance station parking lot.  Fridays and the week leading up to any holiday were the most fun!

Things have changed.  The Corps of Engineers now accept reservations at all campgrounds.  Rothrock Campground became Lake Raystown Resort which is managed by RRP Recreation and they have transformed the Corp facility.  More campsites were added, beach, waterpark, restaurant, lakeside motel, platform tents, cabins and most recently a conference center.

The Resort is a great launching pad for many family vacations.  Here are some pictures and a sneak peak at the new conference center.
