A baby's healing hand

What a joy I had today!  I walked into Sunday School this morning and saw my 3month old in the arms of a sweet middle aged woman.  Violette was never able to have children.  She and her husband, Al are the nicest couple- both very soft spoken and kind.  They had us over for a lovely dinner when we first moved to Ohio.  We were able to begin the process of getting to know them.  We discovered they were both from Canada and had no family anywhere nearby.

Today,  I quietly sat down a couple rows behind her so the baby wouldn't see me.  I didn't want anything to ruin the time this lady was having.  Violette had never held Rebekah so this was a neat time to watch.  During the entire hour I could hear the quiet coos of my baby "talking" to Miss Violette.  I could see her feet kicking excitedly with every noise she tried to make.  Then Al sat down.  Al is a big man.  When you hug him, it feels like you are hugging a big teddy bear.  He's about as gentle too.  One of the greatest things to watch this morning was big Al trying to keep Rebekah's tiny little socks on her feet.  I think he put her socks on about 3 or 4 times.  I wish I was better at describing the picture of this large man patiently trying to slide these itty bitty socks on the wiggling kicking foot of an excited baby.  Then, to watch Violettes awkward but successful attempts at moving the baby around on her shoulder..  Ahh sure beauty.  Violette wasn't an expert hand at holding the baby- but she sure was good at keeping her content.  I hope God wasn't offended at my lack of attention to our teacher- but I know he heard my silent prayers of praise for his creations and his ability to work ALL things together for His good.

Just a couple of weeks ago we had the chance to take Rebekah to meet her Great Grandmother in Michigan.  Randy's Nana was just put into the nursing home and understandably was not adjusting well.  We walked into her room though, and her eyes became glued to the baby ----  we were toast!!  She spent the two hours we were there just absolutely engrossed in the bundle she held.  When we left there was a color to her cheeks and a spark in her eyes that wasn't there when we got there.

Maybe Rebekah will be a Doctor or Nurse when she grows up-  she's already brought healing to a bit of her world.

nothing like it

there is nothing in the world like holding a baby.  it calms all and heals all.

i held a baby at the viewing last week so the mama could go pay her respects....it was so amazing.  life affirming.  darling.  gimme a motrin, i've got baby fever from it, hahaha.

i know when mine were babies i just loved holding them.  my mother told me to put them down to get stuff done.  luckily i disobeyed and held them as long and as much as i could.....b/c it flew by me.

it was good of you to recognize the beauty in someone holding your baby, and wonderful of you to allow her to do so.

Quiet moments

We often get caught up in the BIG times of our lives, but these quiet, little moments are the real keepers. Thanks for sharing.
