Ice Cream for Supper

Tonight as we drove home from work, tired at the end of a week and facing the traditional Lenten Friday fare of fish, we decided to have some fun instead.  We detoured into Tyrone and visited Gardner's.  This fabulous candy store (true historical home of the heart-shaped Valentine's candy box) added an ice cream parlor a few years ago.  And we happened to have one of their coupons from the newspaper:  buy one sundae and get one free!  Can you guess what we had for supper?

Small Tyme hot fudge sundaes with nuts, whipped cream, and a cherry!  (These are so huge that we've always been afraid to try the Big Tyme sundaes)

As we walked from the car to the shop, I tried to remember if Fridays in Lent were days of fasting (no snacks) or only abstaining from meat.  When we opened the door, my questions were answered, as two of our local nuns sat at a marble-topped table enjoying their own ice cream treats!

Our sundaes were perfect - smooth vanilla ice cream topped with thick warm fudge sauce, a generous helping of whipped cream, crushed nuts, and a perfect luscious cherry, with a small cookie on the side.  Now that's the kind of Friday night dinner that truly rewards a week's worth of hard work.

Gardner's in Tyrone

My daughter take dance down the street from there....so every wednesday we go there afterwards, she rides the carousel and we get some penny candy (depending on good behavior in dance class of course!)

The ice cream parlor always looks so yummy, but we never stop for ice cream!!  It's a great slice of Americana still left in central PA!

Gardner's Window

My wife and I love Gardner's ice Cream. However, we really love to walk the sidewalk and look at the window. Given my Irish heritage I am looking forward to seeing the new window.

Tyrone Area Community is having an Irish Dinner. I can not remember where or when. Does anyone know? If so can you share here.
