What does Pennsylvania mean to you?

When you hear the word Pennsylvania, what image comes to mind? Describe it and tell us your impressions about the state. I will be happy to get things started with my image of Pennsylvania.

Do you remember the old license plate “You’ve Got A Friend In Pennsylvania”. That is my image of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has always extended hospitality to people looking for a new start it started with William Penn and continues today.

I was a Park Service Brat. I lived and traveled all over the country. I was not born here but I feel most at home in Central Pennsylvania. I started to make new friends and those friends influenced my life. My best friend taught me how to be a comedian; another friend taught me how to explore the underwater world. I have a friend, who is helping me discover hunting, and I have a friend who helps me understand the stories around me. One of my best friends I married almost eight years ago. I now have a son who I hope gets to know the hospitality and friendship that defines the people of Pennsylvania.

That is what Pennsylvania means to me.

How about you?

Pennsylvania means....

it means home, it means 4 seasons, it means no booze in grocery stores (which I now appreciate)

I Agree

When we first visited Central Pa, we were coming here to check out the area. My father had receive a promotion as the new Park Superintendent at Allegheny Portage Railroad and Johnstown National Flood Memorial. We came into this area and saw the mountains and thought "we are home". The beauty in the mountains during all four seasons is breathtaking.

As far as alcohol in the stores? I could not agree more. Unfortunately there are changes brewing with Sheetz announcing beer sales in their convenience store on 17th street.

Thanks for the comment!

When I *see* the word,

When I *see* the word, Pennsylvania, I think of the woods (latin stem) and home where the majority of my extended family members live.

Your observation on Penn's license plate was interesting - I suppose I would have to agree with you there. Growing up (even if it wasn't in PA) I managed to meet someone new nearly every time I visit and we would become friends one way or another.

Penn's Woods

I agree. Penn's Woods are beautiful. There are a lot of efforts going on to make sure they stay that way.

Over the years efforts have been made to make sure that "invasive plant species" are kept out of Penn's Woods. One such group pushing forward with this effort is Natural Biodiversity. Check our http://www.naturalbiodiversity.org/
