WHEN YOU'RE SMILING....

I have never, in my life, seen such a sight so dreadful, that made me want to take a long walk off a short dock.  I witnessed a man who flipped through a Gary Larson Far Side Calendar and didn’t laugh once!  DID NOT SMIRK!  NO SMILE!  Just sighed as he flipped through the 365 different hysterical cartoons, shaking his head in disbelief.

The sight was so painful I could barely stand it.  I’ve never been so uncomfortable in my life.  ARE YOU FRIGGIN’ KIDDING ME?  I can’t even flip through a couple of pages of Far Sides without laughing uncontrollably, in fetal position on the floor, while doing the Curly Shuffle.  I will not release this man’s name.  I will not even say what sporting event I was attending, when I witnessed this horrific spectacle. What I learned is that not everyone has a funnybone.  I don’t want to believe it, but it is true. I can not understand people who don’t smile and laugh.  But they are out there. And, I’ll say a little prayer for you.  “Get a grip!” This incident bothered me so much, I was going to write a book about it, but I think this short story was a good outlet to vent.  Ahh, there I feel better.

For you poor unfortunate souls who’ve misplaced your sense of humor, remember this, laughter is the shock absorber of life’s blows.  It must be the caricaturist in me, but I see the funny in just about everyone and everything.  I'm not saying that I am going to put out a line of humorous sympathy cards, but I laugh at the darndest things. What about you?
