Bluestone and lumber: Pike County, Pennsylvania

Location(s)

Pike County
Milford, PA
See map: Google Maps

Pike County, PA was formed on March 26, 1814 from Wayne County and named for Rocky Mountain explorer Zebulon M. Pike.  Its bluestone and lumber, carried by the D & H Canal and by the Erie Railroad, appear in buildings throughout America.  Famed for its natural beauty, many East Coast city dwellers have seasonal homes here.  Near Milford, the county seat, is Governor Gifford Pinchot's home, Gray Towers.
