Hunting or shopping, which do you prefer?

Happy Hunting Grounds!

I recently was engaged in some profound “naval gazing” about life when I realized that hunting while armed with a shotgun was similar to shopping while armed with a credit card.

In the fall of the year thousands of individuals participate in two activities that, at a basic level, are very similar. That’s right, hunting and shopping are nothing more than a search that leads to an anticipated outcome. You can bag a big buck or bag a bargain!

Here are some thoughts that prove my point about the similarities of hunting and shopping.

Before you go, pre-season scouting is important. Walk the woodlot to find evidence of your intended quarry or check the circulars to know the locations for the best deals!

The best spots are always crowded!

Certain times of the year draw record crowds! First day of deer season – Black Friday

What you wear is important! Camouflage and good boots – casual clothes and comfortable shoes

Taking a companion is preferred to going alone, but you may need to go separate ways when you actually start. If you do separate, lunch is a good time to meet, compare notes and plan the rest of the day!

Returning home empty handed is not a bad thing, but it is hard to explain that point to others who do not share your love for the “sport.”

Individual skill levels vary so don’t be discouraged if your initial attempts are unsuccessful!

Don’t brag about your success, but be prepared to give the details if asked!

Always be prepared to help the rookies!

Make sure you remember where you parked the vehicle!  After a long day, your may get disoriented.

P.s. The photo was taken from a ridge overlooking Raystown Lake, I took the shot while "shopping" for turkeys! The story location marks the spot.

If you think of other similarities, submit a comment and share your thoughts!
