Indy Jones 4
I saw the 12:01am showing of Indiana Jones and the Island of the Crystal Skull, as did a large crowd as well. Surprisingly, a much younger crowd, more of the Shia LeBeouf fans. He's the actor who plays Mutt Williams in the new Indy feature. There was only one guy, who looked to be about 30 who actually dressed up as Indiana, fedora and whip and all.
Without giving too much away, I'd like to say it's very much like the movie National Treasure, where it mixes Science with Science Fiction. It also has fun with the past as well as the future. Interesting and entertaining. But I'd really like to hear from some of the readers to get their reactions.
I personally did not leave the theater unhappy, I realized it wasn't going to be like the others, since Harry Ford is now 65 or 66. But for a guy that age, he not only looks sharp, but did a lot of his own stunts. A lot like the other Indy movies, much like the Leathal Weapon series, if you like action, and adventure with comedy, I think you'll be pleased with the latest installment of Indiana Jones.

part 2 the DVD
Okay, 5 months later, I've had some updates with the indiana jones movie. Lots of my buddies, who are big movie critics, and who grew up with the whip and fedora, just like me, simply says " IT SUCKS. "
I beg to differ, and here's why....( remember, there is a reason why my eyes are brown, if you choose to read the next few lines )
Spielberg and Lucas are very particular with detail....for instance, even the beginning where the paramount mountain always fades into something...great piece... remember, also, it's been 20 years since we've seen indy, and it's 20 years later in the movies....1957, they even put in an Elvis song with the drag racing scene in the beginning, and Indy saying, when asked if he had any 'last words'....." i like ike" very topical for the times. Russians instead of Nazis...cold war....keeping with the times.
Also, the big nuclear mushroom cloud scene, and people saying, 'how far fetched it was'...come on like the other 3 movies didn't have far fetched scenes....melting nazis, ripping hearts out of people and still living, and oh yeah, the obstacle course of death for the holy grail. ? come on, that's entertainment.
Indy in the fridge, .....was hilarious.
I really liked the beginning, at area 51 ( my favorite part, no doubt ) seeing a glimpse of the Ark from Raiders,...brilliant. Those of us who saw the end credits of the first movie, knew that was coming. Shia L. had the best introduction, coming out of the smoke of the train, on a motorcycle dressed as Marlin Brando, from the Wild Ones... and the fight scene at the diner...how West Side Story...great piece. Marion Ravenwood's intro could have been a little better.
I will admit, it got a bit far fetched, again with the crystal skulls...and I wish there was a little more romance with Karen Allen. AS for the ants, scorpions and monkeys ?...they were just more of the tarantulas, bugs, monkey brains, snakes and rats in the previous 3...continuity, baby.
I would like to point out, that when The Chronicles of Young Indiana Jones were on TV in the early 90's, there was one episode at the very end, where Harrison Ford did a cameo of an aging Indy narrating the show...Mystery of the Blues, check it out. After seeing that, I knew they were going to have another one, but I just didn't think it would have taken 15 years after that short lived series. www.indianajones.com has some great 'behind the scenes and story' clips.
Drive In Baby
I know this only applies to central Pennsylvanians, but this is showing at the Carrolltown Drive In this weekend, and the weather should be perfect for it.
Also, the drive in is SUCH a great way to see a movie on a HUGE screen (take a boom box/radio) and not have to pay a sitter.....our kids fall asleep on the drive up there, whoo hoo!!
