Sponge Bob Trout Fishing
When I got to the "Mitchell Hole" on the first day of trout season, the youngsters were landing fish and having a great time. The adults "on duty" kept everyone safe, untangled, and baited up. It was fun to watch.
The "kids only - under 16" area, on the property of E.B. "Sonny" Heine's farm near Cornprost Mills, was marked off with yellow tape. The deep hole was stocked with plenty of nice sized fish and ready for action. Most of the fish caught were rainbows. A few browns were landed and two large Palimino trout were hooked, but they got off or broke the fishing line. I left after two hours, but the party was going strong and a batch of new kids were arriving.
That area will remain "kids only" for the next 30-days, and will receive a second Fish Commission stocking during that time period. You have plenty of time to plan an outting, and get in on the fun.
To all the sponsors, adults and the Pennsylvania Boat & Fish Commission - well done!
I took plenty of photos and they are posted below. I also dropped some video clips into a 4 minute video collage.
The first three photos and video relate to the title of this post, because Bryce was using a Sponge Bob Squarepants fishing rod and reel. His fish catching reaction was priceless. The video of the catch is a keeper!

Nice Fish Drew
On the first day of trout season, several youngsters lost their chance to catch a large Palomino trout. The big fish got off before they landed it. Drew returned several days later to the Mitchell Hole on Standing Stone Creek and caught the trophy trout. Dad is sending Drew's fish to the taxidermist. His story will be retold everytime someone sees his fish!
