Work At home

I reported to work today in a Mike’s Scuba faded red sweatshirt; a pair of washed out tattered jeans, and my slippers. I have the corner office overlooking a great landscape, my yard and the rest of Sinking Valley. For two weeks I and others have been working hard to move our offices out of Downtown Altoona’s Gable’s Building. Rent, fuel costs, and too much office space prompted our need to move and I now join the many that are making the switch to a home based business strategy.

It was not an easy decision to make. First there was the desire to be a part of some exciting new developments in Downtown Altoona; what with PSU, the concert series, and some new business openings. Second, Downtown Altoona is also a part of the Keystone Innovation Zone, allowing our company some very nice tax incentives. Most importantly there were the friends on the Third Floor I would have to say goodbye to. Like I said not an easy decision, compound that with hope that people would not misinterpret our move as a closing of the business and it was a challenging decision.

But the worrying was put aside and with the strong muscles of my good friend Cory, and with my able friends Paula and Jack assisting our clients, we moved the office on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 (no fooling, we really did). So today I enjoy the first fruits of being at home. The commute to work was short; the commute home will be even shorter. I took a lunch meeting with my son and I was still able to move a website, answer business emails, take business calls, do some internet marketing for StoryTrax.com and America's Stories Inc. and put together a course proposal for Pennsylvania State University.

My only problem now is quitting time. This work is too much like FUN.

i'm jealous!

NO having to figure out what to wear!  No punching the time clock, or finding someone to cover so i can go to the lil girls room!  Sign me up!!

hmmmm...except there would be no students here...no blackboards....no colleagues to collaborate with....nope, not gonna work for a 9th grade bio teacher.

but i;ll try out some WorkAtHome strategies this summer!  (ever try to do housework with a 5 & 3yo underfoot???)

Sounds like a good move for the company...best wishes Erin & all......
