Two distinct voices are quiet

I just heard on the radio that two very distinct and unique voices were stilled today. William F. Buckley, Jr. and Myron Cope died today.

How curious that these two men are linked on this day. I can think of few people who had such a powerful command of the English language. Both could deliver a string of polysyllabic words without batting an eye, and both seemed to enjoy words immensely. It was a pleasure to listen to both of them, whether you were conservative or a Steeler fan.

They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

it's funny (not haha funny but odd)

Not being a Steelers fan nor a diehard Republican, neither of these hit close to my ideals.  That said, when Myron Cope went off the air, listening to the Steelers with my husband just was not the same.  In addition to his voice, he was quite a guy, and all the proceeds of the Terrible Towel go to charity (I think it is to support the foundation that takes care of his son, who is autistic?? need some fact checking there)  As grating as it could be, he definitely was a fixture for PGH and it's a shame he suffered so in the last months of his life.

As for Buckley, each 'side' needs its advocate, and you've got to admire a guy who can be that, regardless of politics.  I think he too will be missed, even by those not in agreement entirely with him.  He definitely made an impact on this country.

Mr. Rogers

It's been 5 years today that Fred Rogers passed away.  march 20th of this year, would have been  his 80th birthday and it's called SWEATER DAY...people are encouraged to wear a sweater in fred's honor.  check out the video, paula.

Two Flag Poles

When Steeler radio lost Myron Cope it was quite a loss. His voice, his language, his keen insight, and his humor will be forever missed. So will that of William F. Buckley...we conservatives will miss his presence in National Review like we Steeler fans missed Myron on the radio.

If I had two flag poles, the American flag flying on one and the Steeler Flag flying on the other they would both be at half mast.
