Work's good days and bad!

Do you ever go to work and have those bad days or vise visa have a great day.   I work in the computer field doing a variety of things and each day usually brings a new story by itself.  I always thought that the Mondays were always going to be a bad work day and Fridays were going to be good work days.

This is not true!   In some cases depending on the job and the atmosphere of the workplace everyday could go either way.  I think this is why the movie "Office Space" was funny and popular.  If you have ever worked in an office environment you could relate to something in the Office Space movie.

Although somewhat unlike the characters in Office Space I have incentives and pride myself in getting more done in a work day.  The more that gets completed the better.

I work mostly alone so most problems getting fixed are on my shoulders.  The only problem is some issues take more time to determine the actual problem and fix than others.   I will sit down on a computer  and 5 hours later I have the problem fixed but then something else arises.  I'll give you a good computer example that a lot of people can relate to.  I sit down on a computer and it has a virus.  The virus corrupted so many things that the computer has become unusable.  I have to perform some various functions to get the computer back to where I can do some basic virus scanning. Then I scan and figure out what the virus is (usually it is detected.  If not it gets worse at this point).  Then I try to remove the virus and it wont remove.  I perform some other functions and finally figure out how to remove the virus.  At this point i might be 10 minutes or 5 hours into it trying to get this computer back working.   Usually its more toward the 5 hour or more mark.  The virus is gone but the computer is still not working entirely.  I have to restore individual programs and clean up some components within windows to get everything back in working order by this time its nearing the end of a workday.  An entire workday on one computer is not making very much headway.   Usually I will sit down at the computer thinking it will be anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours max till the computer is fixed.    On the great days it will be 10 minutes on the bad work days well.. you get the picture.

That was just an example of a bad work day...   They get worse.   I really love the great days, where everything seems to go right.   Those are the days I could sit down at 3 computers and have them fixed in less than a half hour.    It always seems to happen in sequence though.  They usually all come in a row for me.  The good problems come together then it turns around and I hit a snag thus starts the bad part of the day(s).

Comment to this story and share either a great day story or a horror workday story.

I keep track of the real real horror days.   I had two horror stories for 2006 that i can still remember.  I can even give you dates to the one day.

I'll only share one for now here but comment back im interested in other occupations and what all problems out there that rate high depending on other occupations.   Its always good to hear as well what really makes people enjoy a day at work as well.  Share your stories.  Try to keep them all work related.  Personnel problems are another story by themselves but sometimes personnal problems to come to play at work. If you comment back with a story try to explain somethings so that I(we) understand why you feel the way you do about certain things.  For example: my quick horror story below might not make somenoe elses day bad.  especially some people in construction but for me..... Im a computer guy.  I prefer to be in an office working on a computer not out moving around sweeting up the place and gettin dirty.

Mid summer 2006 I was running computer cable with an older gentlemen (who had seniority).  The other guy scoped out the job and knew where everything had to go and was just filling me in as we went.  I usually work alone but he needed help running this cable so I come in and fill the spot.   I push this cable across a basement of an office building.  we get to the end of the basement and he hands me this bg with one set of paper overalls on.   Now realize im standing there in khaki pants and a polo shirt (dressed to somewhat impress and somewhat be able to get dirty).  This is when you get a hint that your day has gone bad.  Then he opens up a little cubby hole door on the side of the wall.  The hint has now been handed to you in a memo that your day has just went really bad.  I didnt even know if i was going to be able to fit through the cubby hole door.  I put on the paper overalls (trying to keep myself semi clean) and yep on this day you knew it was going to happen.  Turns out the biggest size of paper overalls on that they had were not for people above 6ft tall. Seeing that the paperoveralls were on(but ripped in a couple locations) and being the low man on the totem poll, into the hole with the cable I went.  The cable needed to go up through the floor on part of the office building that was expanded without the basement.  OH Great!  I end up army crawling underneath this office building because the area was not vertically high enough for me to do a pushup in.  It was 90 degrees outside where the wind was blowing that day you can imagine the heat where I was.  I end up flipping onto my back by angling myself between wood beams  and then taking a cable snake and bending it.  Then trying to shove it up through the floor without looking because what happens when you shove something upwards whenever your beneath it...   Yep, crap falls down into your eyes.   This whole process took a while because shoving something up through a whole in the floor doesnt always want to go up through properly and then for the other person(who is standing in the office where the cable is going) to find where the cable came through the floor is usually a process in its own.  Then I had to turn back over and army crawl back just to fall out of the cubby hole.

Theres always more details to a bad day like that but you get the gist.

What else does everyone else run into?
