Cooperative Power

Living in the country has its advantages.  You get to enjoy rural peace and quiet, no traffic jams, and affordable electricity service provided by the local electric cooperative.   If it wasn't for the lousy cell service, this place would be perfect or close to it.

February 5,2008, the most recent meeting of the Valley Rural Electric Cooperative (REC), was held.  As coop members, Vickie and I attended the meeting and feasted on a "family style" turkey dinner served by the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company. The 150 people in attendance, voted to nominate a representative for our district.   We ended the evening by watching REC staffers present a slide show update about cooperative activities for the last year.

They also announced that all coop members soon would be receiving refund checks.  That's right, the power company is returning some of our money because they don't need it.  Is that a great deal or what?  A delicious free meal and the CEO told us the check is in the mail!

As we left the building, we received two take home gifts - an adjustable tape measure and a Magic Grip jar opener
