The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Back in 1975, The Edmund Fitzgerald, a freight ship, sunk on Lake Superior. It was November, and gale force winds kicked up the water, tossing the ship around. The captain of the ship wound up losing contact with land, with his last words being reported as "We're holding our own." No one knows what happened in the ship's last minutes, but 29 sailors of every age lost their lives that night. The wreck was found, and is now a memorial site in Lake Superior.
Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian folk singer was inspired to write this song about the shipwreck. It really captures the emotion of what happened that fateful night in November of 1975.
I got to play this song in Key West one night when a singer at a bar on Mallory Square asked me to play it. What a rush, playing under the stars, next to the Gulf of Mexico, in the shadow of a huge cruise ship. It's an experience I'll never forget.
Here I am on my 12 string. Hope you enjoy.

RAVEN
Have you written the story about playing this creepy song in Key West, one night as we were drinking by the dock of the bay, with Raven Cooper?
