Cartooning with Cory

I spent a very colorful day at the Hollidaysburg Library in early December.  I conducted 2 seperarte talks on cartooning.  The first one was with pre-schoolers.  I started by reading a book about a little white bunny, who dips himself into 3 buckets of paint.  One red, one blue and one yellow.  If you know anything about the colors, you can probably imagine what happens to the rabbit in the book.  The wee ones seemed to enjoy it.  Then, I had them color a Santa drawing I created, and ended with a little autograph and doodling session.  It was a blast.

Later that day, I returned to lead a more involved speech to the older students.  It was also very interesting.  Thanks to librarian, Melanie Ramsey,  the whole day flowed very smoothly and she snapped some great photos.

I had a fun time in early January at the Altoona Area Public Library.  I spoke about Cartoons and Comics to a group of high schoolers and then displayed an evening presentation called CARICATURES; THE ART OF MAKING FUNNY FACES. I will hopefully get some photos and perhaps some video on those two shows.

How very cool...

I wish I could find someone around here that did similar activities for kids.  I am on a hunt to find art lessons for Madison.  Keep doing what you're doing.

Cory's Programs at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library

Dear Cory,

I have to mention that the participants (right after your programs finished)  were immediately asking when you would be returning to the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library so that they could attend your programs AGAIN!  You are so, SO well thought of here.   The parents were very positive in their comments too.  Cory is like a rock star, but in art!  (Cory Geishauser, *ART STAR*!)

Sincerely, Miss Melanie (Melanie Ramsey)

Youth/Children's Services Director

Hollidaysburg Area Public Library

thank you kindly

I appreciate the compliment.  Melanie, here's a quote, from the late Jim Henson, that I think you will enjoy.  Personally, it's one of my favorites.  " I can not say why I am good at what I do, but I can say that I work very hard at it.  Nor am I aware of any conscious career decisions.  I've always found that one thing leads to another, and that I've moved from project to project in a natural progression.  Perhaps one thing that has helped me in achieving my goals is that I sinderely believe in what I do, and get great pleasure from it.  I feel very fortunate because I can do what I love to do."

"I feel the greatest gift we can give to anybody is the gift of our honest self." Fred Rogers
