A Semi-True Christmas Story
This is a semi-true Christmas story. At my old job, we used to have a secret-santa gift exchange. I got a co-worker, and I could not think of anything to give her. Then, it dawned on me to write a story about a stray cat problem she brought up nearly every day. So, I bought her a cat food dish, and in about 15 minutes, wrote this story, which I'd like publish sometime. Hope you enjoy!
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except some stray cats.
They snuck in the garage, and pooped on the floor, marked their territory, then pooped some more.
Bowls full of rat poison, gone in a blink,
Each bowl was empty, even one under the sink.
Out of each crevice there came a furball, they ran up the stairs, they ran down the hall.
Walking on counters, jumping on chairs, they all crept out from their hidden lairs.
Meowing loudly all through the night,
The sound alone could give someone a fright.
Then up on the table so fast and so quick,
To give Christmas cookies a nibble or lick.
Out came the homeowner so angry, so mad,
The cats were in trouble, it was going to get bad.
Out came the broom so large and so fast
There was no way any cats would ever get past.
A swing here and there, the owner’s face like a cherry,
The cats were so evil, so mean and so hairy.
Under his legs they sped like lighting,
They weren’t about to go down without fighting.
Around and around in circles they ran,
Ducking and dodging the powerful man.
Awakened by all the noise in the house,
The lady crept down the stairs like a mouse.
While trying to see what was making the sound,
Across her feet did a mad feline bound.
She got very startled and nearly lost her feet,
Her blood pressure rose, her face now like a beet.
She ran towards the monster, a calico beast,
She did not like this animal, not in the least.
Straight down the hall towards the door to the garage,
She began to throw objects in an angry barrage.
As they ran to the door the lady and man
Almost caught the big cat that was yellow and tan.
It stopped and it hissed, the fur rose on its back
Its mean glowing eyes were yellow and black.
As the man and the lady closed in on the creature,
It played out like a scene from a horror film feature.
The cat turned and ran straight out the door,
The man and the lady almost fell to the floor.
They tried to get to the door, but to no avail,
The door slammed shut, this was the end of the trail.
Out in the garage there arose such a clatter,
The cats blocked the door with a pail and a ladder.
The homeowner could not get out the door,
He tried and tried, then tried some more.
The cats sat and laughed, proud of what they’d done,
They just had some great Christmas fun.
They ran out the garage door, they knew they’d be back,
Even if the doors were closed they’d sneak through a crack.
You could hear them exclaim as they ran out of sight,
This isn’t farewell, wait till tomorrow night!
