Holiday Lights On The Lake

It’s the 11th year for Lakemont Park’s “Holiday Lights on The Lake”. Every year it creates new traditions for families.  My family made the trip to Lakemont Park in Altoona, Pa on November 23, 2007. It was our son’s first look at the holiday lights and it might just become an annual Black Friday event.

The event running from Thanksgiving Day to January 6, 2008, features beautifully bright Christmas lights and animated light displays. Carloads of happy families wend 1.2 miles to see a gigantic Nativity scene, arches depicting falling snowflakes, jumping frogs, leaping deer, elves dunking a donut in a cup of coffee, and tumbling gingerbread men and many more while seasonal music plays on the their radios. In our car we were “oohing” and “aahing” as we drove through the tunnel of lights and past the eye blinding Avenue of Trees, maple trees wrapped with thousands of lights.

There are some other activities taking place at Lakemont Park’s “Holiday Lights on The Lake”. Children and adults can visit and have their picture taken with Santa, who sits in his red sleigh. There is an exquisite model train exhibit, live musical performances, and a gift shop. You can even take a horse drawn sleigh, wagon, and carriage ride through the light display, please reserve ahead of time. You can play “Where’s Rudolph”. Count the number of times you see this red nosed reindeer hiding in light displays all through the park.

We had so much fun that we purchased a season pass for “Lights on The Lake”. Cost is $7 per car or you can go purchase a season pass for $25.00. We plan on bringing other family members to the event so the season pass is a good investment and of course we have to get our pictures taken with Santa! Proceeds from the event benefit Lakemont Park as well as many nonprofit organizations in the area.

You just can't help but leave with a smile on your face! It's a holiday tradition your family will want to experience every year. Each year "Holiday Lights on The Lake" gets bigger and bigger!

it is the best!

to watch the kids so awed and wide eyed....it is really the best!  We usually hit a weeknight...the weekends get a bit crowded!  My parents have been going each year on New Years Eve after their dinner out, fun for all ages!  We let the kids climb out of the carseats and sit on our laps up front to get a better view....I know I know not safety conscious but you are only going about 3MPH!
