Military Bivouac

Last weekend, we traveled to the Boalsburg Military Museum and grounds to see and learn more about a Military Bivouac. Tom brought a tent that was used in Viet Nam during the war and he had it furnished with the army supplies that were used. Cases of fake ammunition and sandbags surrounded the tent. And inside, he had a cot and water supply for the hot days. I have many pictures to share and include in this story; but I can't find the toolbar to load the images. You can view my gallery on Boalsburg Military Bivouac at: CU Community Photo Galleries on the Altoona Mirror site.

Anyway, Sue and Brad and I walked a trail to the Civil War Encampment and discovered a long black snake walking the same path ahead of us. We don't know what kind of snake that it was; but it had coral stripes on both sides. And he seemed very tense when he heard us approaching. So we changed our path and went exploring other campgrounds.

We saw the tent that is used in the War now over in Iraq. It was so roomy and had lots of screens to let in the air. The soldiers manning that tent gave out candy and told us about the new modern guns that are used. They were very helpful and proud of their equipment. We thanked them for the information.

Finally, we took a tour of the Boalsburg Military Museum. It was great! We saw military jeeps, trucks and campsites set up for action. Also, in the lobby, we could watch a slide show of the encampment and the people who were participating in it. Two young girls dressed in Vietnamese clothing recognized themselves in the photographs. Bob bought little Brad an American flag and he held it up outside by the tent and we all recited the "Pledge of Allegiance." Then Brad marched into the tent proudly waving the flag. It was a great feeling to see how wonderful and brave our soldiers are to keep our country safe.

Eager to see your pictures!

Enjoyed your description and I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures. To insert them, click on the "Insert/Edit image" icon in the middle toolbar (it looks like mountains with a yellow sky), then just follow the directions.  Good luck!

I clicked on the icon; but it didn't open or give me directions. It just made a bleep sound.  You can view all the pictures at CU on the Altoona Mirror Page.

Thanks, Birdie1936

Pop Up blocker

I am going to guess that the Bleep sound you heard is your popup blocker. It is usually seen at the top of the window. If you click on the warning and allow the popup you should be ok.
